Yangshan port enters "mature operation"

By June 10, Yangshan deep-water port in Shanghai enters into "mature operation," after its successful operation for whole six months It had managed to handle more than 1.3 million TEUs, with an average daily throughput of more than 7,000 TEUs, which could only be achieved by a newly built port in two to three years.

The success sets a new record in port development history and pushes forward the implementation of the state strategy of making Shanghai an international shipping center.

At the end of this year, the second phase of Yangshan port will be completed and put into use, and by then the capacity of the port will be doubled to 3 million TEUs a year.

Since the operation, the Yangshan terminal has achieved its duty accuracy above 98%. During the six months, there are only 26 accumulated hours of closing interval due to the weather condition, and 7 hours of traffic closure in the East China Sea Bridge. Once after a blustery weather, the Yangshan port resumed operation about 12 hours ahead of neighboring ports.

Last year, the Shanghai port ranked the first in the world in terms of cargo throughput and the third in terms of container handling. This year it is expected to develop by leaps and bounds.

The importance of Yangshan port is also reflected by its role in promoting a new round of exploration and utilization of Yangtze River, so called "Golden Waterway". Furthermore, it has optimized the ports structure in the Yangtze delta.
